Why did you decide to name your blog “Peace Love Nutrition” and what is it about?
I named my Blog, Peace Love Nutrition, because I believe in a holistic lifestyle. I think that the mind, body, and spirit are all equally important factors in the quest for health and happiness.
On your blog, you have a page called “Food Philosophy.” What is your overall food philosophy?
My food philosophy is simple: I eat well-balanced meals that are mostly vegetables and exercise at least 5 days a week.
I spent the majority of my life trying to look for a ‘quick’ and ‘easy’ solution for my yo-yo dieting and I realized it’s all about balance and moderation.. If I want something sweet I allow myself to have a little of it. When you don’t give into these temptations you start to obsess about it and crave it.
Enjoy life! Have that wine or chocolate but remember: Everything in Moderation.
You talk a lot about yoga in your blog. What’s your favorite part of yoga?
Yoga has completely changed my life and was the inspiration behind my blog. My friends tried for years in college to get me to go to Yoga but it wasn’t until I moved to NYC and started a Vinyasa practice that I fell in love.
I love everything about yoga but my favorite thing would have to be connecting the breath and body. I love inhaling and feeling my lungs fill with air and moving my body into a certain position and exhaling and moving it again. It’s a beautiful and simple thing that many of us take for granted in our everyday hectic lives.
Do you have any advice for someone who wants to start doing yoga?
Don’t worry about being flexible! (This is often the first excuse I get for not trying Yoga)
Try a Vinyasa class first (this is the ‘flow yoga’ and is more like a cardio work out.) There is often very minimal Sanskrit (the language of Yoga) and meditation. It’s perfect for beginners.
Yoga is about the individual. Don’t worry what others in the class are doing- they are not you and your body. Focus on yourself (sometimes closing you eyes throughout the practice really helps this.)
What is your favorite healthy recipe to make to travel with?
I travel a lot for work, as you can see on my blog, I just went to 18 different countries. I consider myself an expert traveler and packer. (It’s amazing what I can pack in 1 tiny suitcase!),I don’t tend to make anything when I travel just bring healthy snacks like almonds.
Here’s a fun post I wrote though on Healthy Travel Tips: http://peacelovenutrition.wordpress.com/2012/03/14/3328/
‘Life is all about experiences. I’m not going to go to Buenos Aires and not try their meat or drink their delicious Malbec wine. I don’t want to be in Paris and not try the different macaroons or in Venice and not indulge in Gelato.
The key is to set yourself up (sleep properly, digest the different foods well) for a healthy trip. Indulge and enjoy those delicious treats but get your body moving everyday and eat as much vegetables as you can.’
