My name is Lindsey LeGrande. I have been in the health and fitness world for as long as I can remember. I swam competitively since I was the age of 6 and continued to play NCAA water polo at UCSB. After college I knew I had to create a career that involved my passion, which was health and fitness so I got certified by PISC in Manhattan Beach. 5 years later I did another pilates certification and was certified in Romana’s pilates in 2011.
As my career unfolded I started to include health and nutritional advice to my clients and in that process I discovered an amazing diet/cleanse that changes people’s ideas about food and nutrition. I added that to my bag of tricks as well as started training people outside either on the beach or in a park using their own body weight and keeping it very core based with some interval cardio. After having so many people asking me about what I do I decided to start my website and blog. It has been a great platform and I am able to have people follow me along while they are on my 21-day program.
What are a couple of your favorite exercises, and why?
My favorite abdominal exercise in pilates is called the series of 5! They kick your butt. I like to teach them back to back with no rest. Your tummy burns and you begin to feel your core strengthen if done 2-3 times a week. This works for anyone! From Pro-athletes to weak women post childbirth. My second favorite exercise is lunges. These kick anyone’s butt and can be done in so many different ways from 15 in a row fast to 5 super slow. You can add jumps in between to pick up the heart rate. I love doing them in the sand it kicks your butt literally! Game changer to increasing tone in the thighs and butt.
The hang! This is an exercise you have to do on a pialtes Cadillac machine. This is the most decompressing exercise I think there is in pilates. This helps separate the lumbar spine from the hips and create a feeling of relief. Great for everyone, but specifically great for people with lower back pain as well as hip pain.
For people who may not know much about nutritional cleanses, can you explain a little bit about why people do it? Do you have any advice for someone who wants to try it for the first time?
The LBL 21 day cleanse I put my clients on is not what most people think of when they think of a cleanse. Most people think it’s when you don’t eat but it’s the exact opposite of that! You eat the entire time and you eat A LOT probably more than you normally do. It’s just that you cut out specific foods and drinks that can be toxic to your system This particular program helps to cleanse your liver which helps all your organs and your metabolism work more efficiently! My program is the best natural metabolism booster there is on the market! It truly changes people’s lives. People tend to lose anywhere from 3-25 pounds in 21 days and this is weight that doesn’t come back. It helps clients to changes their lifestyle and that is why it works. Do you have a favorite healthy recipe or two you love you make? Why?
This is my favorite recipe because it is very nutritious, so yummy, and very easy to make!
Sautéed Eggplant with Organic Tomato Sauce (Takes only 10 mins max!)
1 Medium Sized Organic Eggplant
1 Jar of Organic Tomato Sauce
1/2 Yellow or white Onion
1 Clove of garlic
Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar, Salt and Pepper
First slice the eggplant into 1/4 inch disks. In a large sauté pan place the pressed garlic clove and the 1/2 onion and cool until soft in olive oil. Then add the eggplant making sure it is drizzled in olive oil and that each piece touches the pan. While it is cooking add balsamic vinegar and flip them until they begin to brown. Then add the sauce and cook until all contents are warm. Serve and add salt and pepper.
I love this one as well for the same reasons plus it fills you up!
AVACADO SALAD with Lemon Ginger Dressing
1 ½ TSP Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
½ TSP Fresh Lemon or Lime Juice
½ TSP Coarsley chopped fresh parsley, miny or cilantro
½ TSP Minced Scallion
¼ TSP Grated Ginger
½ Avocado, halved lengthwise and pitted, but not peeled
Kosher Salt and Ground Black Pepper
1 Small Inner Leaf Bibb Lettuce or some mache leaves
Whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice and herbs and add the scallions and ginger. Place avocado on lettuce and add the dressing! SO yummy;
What advice do you have for people who don’t have much time to work out during the week?
Do whatever you can to be active. Even if it means taking a lunch break and going on a 20 min walk! You can do lunges in your office plus 2-3lb arm weigh exercises. Try and find a hobby that is active that you like so that working out can be fun and something you can do with your friends like playing tennis on the weekends. The more you make it a chore the more you aren’t going to prioritize it. Also make sure to make time for yourself because the more you do the better energy you will give to everyone else you are taking care of.
