Dancing Your Way To Fitness

Let's face it, exercise can be a drag. Want to enjoy your workouts? Consider kicking up your heels at a dance class. Calories will be burned and muscles will be developed just as easily doing something fun as they will when you are forcing yourself to go through the motions.

For that matter, you'll burn more calories and firm up your muscles more effectively when you're engaged in something you look forward to. You might run out of gas doing the same old schtick, and end up giving up after a few weeks or months.

But dancing to the beat can keep you moving as long as you're still loving it. And if you choose the dance style that suits you best, you may not be hanging up your dancing shoes for a long time. Dance classes for all types of music are beckoning you to come tap your toes.

Ballroom dancing used to be considered an old fogey activity. Dancing With the Stars and then a snowballing of other dancing competition programs have put ballroom dancing back in the limelight. You can dress up and feel like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, while you trip the light fantastic across the ballroom floor.

Heard of Zumba? It's an aerobic class based on Latin dance, like mambo and salsa. "Zumba" is of Colombian derivation, from a word that means "moving fast" and "having fun". It's an aerobic, cardiovascular workout that you'll want to dive into.

Hip-hop taps into Latino and African American dance, as well as jazz, rock and tap dancing. Hip-hop makes for an energetic workout that is great for cardiovascular health. Break dancing is a type of hip-hop that will burn a lot of calories while you spin across the floor.

Belly dancing has been around forever in the middle-east, and has been popular here in the west for some time. Your core muscles will thank you as you work your mid-section and abdominal area.

Pick up a video or DVD for your favorite type of dance, or select something from the smorgasbord of dance moves on the internet, and shake that booty into shape.
